Prof. P.Chellathurai, Registrar of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University earned his Ph.D. Degree at the age of 29. He started his teaching career as an Assistant Professor in a college. He rose to the position of a University Professor when he was appointed as the Director in the Department of Youth Welfare, Madurai Kamaraj University in 1994. Prior to that he served as Senior Lecturer and Reader in the School of Historical Studies, M.K.U. Also, he was in Govt. of India Service as Faculty Head between 1997 - 1998. He served as Dean for College Development from 2001 to 2004 in Madurai Kamaraj University and as Registrar of Periyar University from November 2004 to October 2005.

He has to his credit successfully guided 17 M.Phil dissertations, published 26 Research articles, presented 141 Research Papers, facilitated over 100 Human Resource Development Training Programmes for Teachers and Students, organised nearly 182 applied academic Programmes and participated in several National and International Conferences. Currently he is Guiding 5 Ph.D. Scholars.

He has been given Five awards for his outstanding educational and extension services. He has served as member in a number of review and expert committees constituted by the University Grant Commission and the Government of Tamilnadu. He is a specialist in College Development Programmes. He has organised and facilitated a number of training and orientation programmes on College Autonomy, NAAC, UGC funding and Research in colleges etc.

As a teacher, scholar and trainer in Modern History, Social Harmony and Human Resource Development, Dr. P.Chellathurai has been editing and publishing a Bi-annual National Integration Research Journal entitled "UNITE" since 1992. His editorials published in the above journal such as " Remove Poverty By Linking Rivers" " Triple Tolerance - A Must for Peace and Progress", " Towards a Value Knowledge Skill Oriented Higher Education", "Let Zero Defect and Superlative Quality be our Goal, " India Towards Super Power Status" and " Six Knowledge Driven Skills for Empowerment" unfold his vision and mission for Humanism, Youth Empowerment, Communal Harmony and Human Resource Development. He has published two books namely Working Class Movement in TamilNadu 1918 - 1947 - A Study on Industrial Relations and Higher Education in Madurai Kamaraj University. As the Founder, Dr. P. Chellathurai co-ordinated the training programme at the Madurai Kamaraj University for IAS Exams from 1992 to 2004. He served as International Students Advisor and organised a number of orientation and training programme for Youth Red Cross Programme officers and volunteers all over the country. As the YRC Zonal Coordinator of Madurai Kamaraj University over 10 years, the Indian Red Cross Society, TamilNadu branch has given him the Best YRC Zonal Co-ordinator award for the year 2003-04.
